On 10 September 2026, IKIGAI was featured during the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Tech Talk, “Mapping the Data Spaces Standardization Landscape – and Shaping Version 3.0”, connecting the project with the wider European and international discussion on interoperable and trusted data spaces.
The public online session brought together 120 participants, with 150 registered participants receiving access to the recording following the event. IKIGAI was presented alongside other Horizon Europe projects contributing to the development and implementation of data spaces.
The Tech Talk introduced Version 2.0 of IDSA’s position paper on the Data Spaces Standardization Landscape and explored how data space architectures and technical assets are increasingly aligning with formal European and international standards. The session addressed developments across ISO/IEC, CEN-CENELEC and IEEE, as well as their relationship with the European regulatory framework.
Connecting implementation with standardisation
Standardisation and interoperability are essential to enabling data spaces to operate across organisations, sectors and borders. During the session, IDSA highlighted several areas that are central to this development, including trust and identity management, semantic interoperability, data discovery, contract negotiation and conformity assessment.
The discussion also illustrated how practical implementation experience can contribute to formal standardisation. IDSA’s approach connects assets such as the IDS Reference Architecture Model, IDSA Rulebook and Dataspace Protocol with standardisation activities taking place through organisations including ISO/IEC and CEN-CENELEC.
For IKIGAI, participation in this wider ecosystem supports the project’s commitment to interoperability and alignment with emerging standards. IKIGAI consortium partners were invited to follow the Tech Talk, helping ensure that relevant developments in data spaces and standardisation can be considered as the project progresses.
Contributing to a wider data spaces ecosystem
The Tech Talk also looked ahead to Version 3.0 of IDSA’s standardisation paper. Participants were invited to contribute updates on evolving standards, developments from additional regions and practical experience that can help identify remaining gaps. Key areas highlighted for further work include metadata governance and discovery, trust frameworks, data usage and cross-sector and cross-border interoperability.
IKIGAI’s presence in the session reinforces the project’s connection with this evolving ecosystem and its ambition to contribute to solutions that can work beyond individual projects and use cases. Alignment with common standards and interoperable approaches is an important part of enabling data to be shared and used effectively across logistics networks and the broader European data economy.
The recording and presentation slides from the Tech Talk are publicly available through the IDSA archive.

IKIGAI at IPIC 2026: Multimodal hubs, ports and deployable nodes
At IPIC 2026 in Bordeaux, the IKIGAI project showcased methodologies and tools to help scale Physical Internet innovations beyond pilot projects. Discussions highlighted the importance of interoperability, governance, stakeholder collaboration and readiness assessment to accelerate the deployment of scalable, zero-emission logistics solutions.
IKIGAI at Gruber Logistics Innovation Summit
At the Gruber Logistics Innovation Summit, Fernando Liesa and Sergio Barbarino highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges facing logistics. Discussions focused on the Physical Internet, innovation deployment, automation and AI, emphasising that resilient and sustainable supply chains require not only technological advances but also stronger collaboration across organisations and stakeholders. Their contributions closely reflected the ambitions of the IKIGAI Project, which is accelerating the transition towards collaborative, interconnected and zero-emission freight transport systems.
Physical Internet maturity model for corporations
The ALICE–JPIC webinar explored Japan’s Physical Internet Maturity Model (PIMM), highlighting how structured maturity frameworks, collaboration and international exchange can support scalable, interoperable and zero-emission logistics transformation.
