PI Coalition
Physical Internet Coalition
The Physical Internet (PI) Coalition is a multi-stakeholder governance body designed to accelerate the adoption of the Physical Internet as a means of achieving decarbonised, resilient and efficient freight transport and logistics in Europe and beyond. As a central pillar of IKIGAI, it provides the necessary structure, alignment and momentum to turn vision into coordinated action.
The PI Coalition, composed of companies and organisations, unites industry leaders, logistics service providers, technology developers, policymakers, researchers and civil society representatives. Its purpose is to serve as the collaborative backbone that aligns ongoing initiatives, promotes standards and ensures the transition to the Physical Internet is inclusive and scalable.
As an open platform, the PI Coalition is not limited to IKIGAI partners. Instead, it seeks to engage a wider range of stakeholders, creating a unified voice that supports EU climate objectives and strengthens Europe’s global competitiveness.
Functions and contributions
The PI Coalition is designed to:
-
- Align efforts across projects, organisations and sectors by offering a common framework.
- Guide the adoption of PI norms and standards, ensuring interoperability and scalability.
- Amplify visibility and outreach, engaging with decision-makers, industry associations and international bodies.
- Activate collaboration across borders, facilitating cross-industry and cross-regional dialogue.
- Provide continuity beyond project lifecycles, ensuring that learnings, tools and governance structures remain active.
Benefits for PI Coalition members
By joining the PI Coalition, members become part of a high-level forum where expertise, influence, and collaboration converge. They gain:
-
- Direct access to emerging standards and best practices.
- Opportunities to shape EU and global logistics policy and regulation.
- A strong platform for networking with innovators, industry leaders and policymakers.
- Increased visibility as contributors to a transformative European initiative.
The PI Coalition is not just an outcome of IKIGAI but one of its most enduring legacies. While IKIGAI pilots (Logistics Innovations) demonstrate what is possible in practice, the PI Coalition provides the mechanism to scale up, replicate, and sustain change.
